Global Women's Strike

The Global Women’s Strike is a grassroots network, invest in caring not killing is our strategy for change. We campaign for the return of military budgets to the community, beginning with women the main carers in every country of people and the planet. Women, and men who support our goals, take action together on 8 March, International Women’s Day, and throughout the year. We work to ensure that power relations among us are addressed, and that each of our struggles is backed by our collective power. Women from different sectors are involved: women of color, Indigenous & rural women, mothers, women in waged work, lesbian, bisexual women & TT women, sex workers, religious activists, women with disabilities, older & younger women…

The Crossroads Women’s Center in LA is coordinated by GWS and is based at the Eastside Café. The Center is open twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30-4pm. Other groups based at the Crossroads Women’s Center include: DCFS Give Us Back Our Children, a self-help, multi-racial action and support groups of mothers, other family members, & supporters working against the unjust removal of children from their families by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and is coordinated by the Every Mother is a Working Mother Network (EMWM); EMWM campaigns to establish that raising children and caring work is work and for the value of this work to be reflected in the right to welfare and other resources; and the Haiti Working Group/LA in support of the Haitian grassroots’ demand to end occupation and in opposition to the theft by NGOs of resources donated to Haitian earthquake relief . We also help facilitate ongoing efforts of the Women’sCircle@OccupyLA.

Meetings are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am-12pm
